Bandai Namco made an unexpected announcement at the Game Awards, announcing that Pac-Man would return. Wanting to introduce the iconic character to new players, the studio announced the action-platformer Shadow Labyrinth game.
Pac-Man themed Shadow Labyrinth introduced
The new game, inspired by Secret Level, released on Amazon Prime Video, had begun development before the movie. Accordingly, Bandai Namco initially reached out to the filmmakers with a concept design and wanted to test the waters.
The new adventure will transform the maze chase gameplay into a Metroidvania-style experience. Players will explore complex environments, overcome challenging obstacles, and fight their way out of the world. In this context, bosses will also test players’ skills.
“We’re taking Pac-Man to a place he’s never been before,” said Knoah Piasek, Pac-Man Marketing Manager at Bandai Namco Entertainment. “This project will allow us to connect with adult gamers in a whole new way.”
“The darker atmosphere of the game allows us to experiment with gameplay and storytelling in ways we couldn’t in a traditional Pac-Man game,” said producer Seigo Aizawa. “We can’t wait to see how players respond to this evolution of the series.”
Shadow Labyrinth, which will be released on Pac-Man’s 45th anniversary, will be released next year for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Digital versions will also be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
